Village Children

By Harmony | June 12, 2009 | 12:02 pm

Yesterday, I took my camera with me on my evening walk around the village. Cameras, as it turns out, are instant child magnets. Here are some of the shots I took. Click on the pictures to enlarge them.

These boys insisted that I let them pose on the walls of the madrasa, the school of Islam.

Here are a few of the same boys. It’s nearly impossible to get them to stand still.

One of the mamas wanted me to take a picture of her mtoto. He was the youngest of my photo subjects.

This girl’s name is Mwanamisi. She wanted her picture taken peke yake (by herself).

Here are some younger, shy types. Notice the littlest one hiding behind the msichana.

The girl in the middle, whose name escapes me at the moment, is very sassy. She always has the answer, so I seek her out whenever I have questions about current events in the village. She doesn’t speak any English, and I don’t speak very good Kiswahili, but it always seems to work out just fine.
