Warthog
By Harmony | April 19, 2009 | 10:51 am
Yesterday morning, the Small Enterprise Development team set out on a field trip to KickStart and the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI), to view a number of technologies being developed and used by small farmers and entrepreneurs for wealth creation.
Not long after we pulled out of the conference center and onto the main road, the bus stopped abruptly. I looked out the window to see what was the matter…just then, a giant warthog appeared and continued on his merry way across the busy Nairobi street.
I love this country.

Hi Harmony- What a compelling and inspiring web site Kickstart is (I love the logo, which mimics using a man’s weight on on a fulcrum point and a pump to raise water). Thanks for introducing them. I have leveraged my real estate site to local prominence and appreciate how a well done site like yours and kickstart’s are effective and informative. I’ve been thinkng about that boardwalk. The only thing I have conjured up is a floating boardwalk (think floating docks used on US lakes and streams), which would only work if you found a local manufacturer of plastic moulding injection machinery, like Husky (Canada). Hope your IST has rejuvenated you! Best, Mike

Harmony- Couldn’t resist this: KIRDI collaborates with a company in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, where I was a PCV (1965-67). My wife Stell and I will be visiting Jaipur after my PC group India XVI reunites in Agra for 4 days (so far 30 couples are confirmed) after 42 years this coming Nov. Thereafter we’ll spend two weeks in Kenya (via Bombay where I lived 5 years), whence I imported Akamba kiondos (via Machakos) for two years (1984-85). Small concidences. Small world. Cheers, Mike
