PC Update

I called the Placement Officer and left her a very upbeat message about my eagerness to talk to her about alternative placement. I hope she calls me back without delay.

I also wrote her an e-mail:

[Name Removed],

I wanted to write you and introduce myself. My name is Harmony, and I was nominated to Africa Region, Business Development, for mid-October departure. I learned this morning that I have not been assigned to the country of my original nomination due to medical restrictions. With this news, I wanted to reach out to you to discuss other options for my placement.

First, I’d like to share a little about myself. I am a 29-year old working professional. I have a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, with a minor in Finance. I have over 6 years of management experience within my company, plus 2 years in my current position as an Analyst.

I am an active leader in my organization. I was the office “Wellness Champion” during our corporate Wellness Challenge in February, I coordinated several CPR/Basic First Aid classes in August, and most recently, I was nominated as Project Leader for our annual Volunteer Day in October. Outside of work, I am a “Big” with Big Brothers Big Sisters San Diego; I have been a mentor with the organization for over 2.5 years, dedicating over 300 volunteer hours. I am also an active member of my local Harley Owners Group, which organizes regular community events such as blood drives, health awareness, motorcycle safety awareness, and military support events.

I have 4 years of classroom training in French, and consider myself at “conversational” level. Since learning of my original nomination in March, I’ve been brushing up on my French, spending about 2-3 hours studying per day. Although I feel that my language skills would be valuable in a French-speaking country, I am flexible and willing to go wherever you feel I am needed – even if it means learning another language entirely!

I am eager to get in touch with you in person to talk about my placement. As a “mid-career” nominee, I have some unique challenges to address. I work in a specialized field, and would like to give my company ample notice so that they can hire and properly train my replacement. Also, the lease on my house is coming due on October 1st; I’ll need to decide shortly whether I’ll need to move to temporary housing or discuss a month-to-month arrangement with my landlord. I know that placement takes time and that patience is of the essence. I ask only for the courtesy of keeping me up-to-date and providing me with an alternative placement as soon as possible. I am very pleased to have made it this far in the process and look forward to an official invitation.

Please take a moment to review my file and give me a call. I can be reached at [phone number removed]. I look forward to speaking with you!

Sincerely,

Harmony

Hopefully, she’ll call me back. The saga continues…
