More Peace Corps Info

I haven’t been too busy at work today, so that’s left me plenty of time to browse the Internet for information on Peace Corps service.
I’ve learned from others’ blogs that Medical Review can be crazy, and that I should expect the process to be lengthy and redundant. If I use an outdated form, I go back to square one. If the doctor accidentally prescribes the wrong lab tests, I’ll have to do it again. If I have some weird allergy, my service may be delayed. I think it all stems from the fact that Peace Corps is a government agency, and is thus bogged down with inefficient processes and bureaucracy.
In my browsing, I found a great resource that describes the current PC makeup and the countries in which volunteers serve:
http://www.peacecorps.gov/policies/pdf/peacecorps_cbj_2008.pdf
So this is where I can narrow it down a little. According to my Nomination, I’ll be going to a French-speaking African nation, working in Business Development. After eliminating all non-French speaking African countries and those who don’t have any volunteers working in Business, I learn that my assignment will likely be in one of the following eight countries:
Benin
Burkina Faso
Cameroon
Guinea
Mali
Niger
Senegal
Togo
Morocco and Mauritania are also possibilities, but their official language is Arabic. Madagascar is French-speaking, but has no Business Development volunteers at this time.
I’m still thinking about starting another blog just for Peace Corps. If I do, I’ll send everyone the link.
And so I leave you with a quote that is widely-distributed among Peace Corps volunteers:
“Some people see the glass half empty, some people see the glass half full, a Peace Corps Volunteer sees the glass and says “Hey, I could take a bath in that!”
